Wifey & I went to Sorrento in Spring and strolling around, what to I see?
A Penny-Farthing themed Wine Bar.
Wine AND Penny-Farthings in one place?
🍆
This clearly required investigation…
Although they didn’t serve any of my usual fine American vinos- Thunderbird, Mad Dog 20/20, Night Train, Cisco, Wild Irish Rose– they did have an otherwise fine selection of local vintages pleasing to the local goombahs.

Not one to take pictures of my food to post on the Internet, you’ll have to take my word that the cheeseboard they brought out was superlative, as was the plonk we ordered to wash it down.
True, the Penny-Farthing suspended from the ceiling was, erm “unique”, but some Penny-Farthing is better than no Penny-Farthing, so I’ll still give them 5 stars for Penny-Farthing decor.
As for food & wine, I was going to dock them a star for not serving Mad Dog 20/20, but I conceded not everybody has the same cultured palate as us Americans. So I’m going to give them 5 stars for wine, food & service.
If you ride Penny-Farthings and are missing bicycles with asymmetrically sized tires and are in Sorrento, this is your go-to joint.
Footnote: I ran into Penny Les at this year’s Tweed Run and chatting, it was revealed that both Penny Les and I were in Pompeii at the same time! Wifey and I walked by the famous- some say “infamous”– Penny Les’ hotel on the way to visit the antiquities.
Sadly, no Penny-Farthings were discovered excavating Pompeii which we were both agreed was a big let-down…
